About the Awards

Born out of the global success of the Sports Technology Awards, the STA Start Ups meet a clear market need for outstanding young businesses to gain commercial advantage through third-party endorsement of their work.

Entries are welcome from start up businesses across the sports and technology sectors, ranging from bootstraps to those no more than three months out from Series A funding, whose annual revenues are less than £10m / US$15m.

For absolute fairness, in each category entries will be divided by annual revenue (˃£2 m / US$3 m and ˂£2 m / US$3 m) and judged initially by revenue stream. The two businesses scoring highest in each stream will then be compared to determine the category winner.

Success at the STA Start Ups Gives Your Business a
Tangible Commercial Advantage

Winning Awards Works for Businesses Here’s What One Start Up Business Told Us

I came to the Awards with a potential investor and was delighted even to be shortlisted for 'Best App' in such prestigious and renowned company. The win will be a total gamechanger for us and definitely helped us to secure our investment.  We'd like to say a massive thank you to the Sports Technology Awards I would definitely recommend the awards to anyone considering applying.”

Jim Law – Founder, Find A Player, 2017 Winner of Best App

Start Up businesses, more than anyone, need to be mindful of spending their marketing budgets wisely but entering Awards can make great commercial sense. Here are just some reasons why.

  • You get your business known by industry experts simply by entering. Our judges include some people who will be firmly in your target market. They see all the entries in every category they judge, so they will see your work. This is your chance to really impress them.
  • Winners in the Start Up category of the Sports Technology Awards tell us that success converted into tangible commercial results – this didn’t mean winning, just being shortlisted was deemed an accolade. Winning third-party endorsement via the Awards meant:
    a.  elevated customer conversations
    b.  reduced sales periods
    c.  motivated staff
    d.  new investors were attracted
  • With entries priced from only £150 this could be your shrewdest marketing investment this year!
